OnSet is currently not available for French and Spanish. However, it is possible to take placement test for these language as well. We recommend the following placement tests for French and Spanish: 

1. For French try the test from the Institut Français. This test takes about 45 minutes and test listening and reading comprehension as well as vocabulary and grammar.
2. In the Spanish modules we work with the books Universo ele. You can use the included placement test.
3. It is also possible to use the placement tests on Testpodium.com. Here you can choose a language and level. After registering you can take a test of about 35 minutes.

You can take the tests in the Language Centre of the University of Vechta.  The test dates can be found under www.onset.de and under NEWS on our website. You can also schedule an individual exam appointment with us.

The onSET examines your overall language competence using a “C-Test”.  Each examinee receives a set of 8 fill-the-gap texts, each containing 20 gaps to be completed. Examinees have five minutes to complete each text. The entire exam takes a maximum of 40 minutes.

You can access a sample test for English and German under www.onset.de in order to familiarize yourself with the test format.

You can sign up for the onSET online at the address www.onset.de.  If you have never taken an onSET-Test, then go to the start-page, select the link “Teilnehmende”, then scroll down the page and follow the instructions under “In 5 Schritten zur Einstufung”. If you have signed up for an onSET test previously, then you can log-in directly.

Students enrolled at the University of Vechta do not have to register online in advance!  Instead, they register directly on the online portal on the day of the test.  Information and dates for the internal exams will be announced on Stud.IP and on our website under the rider “Aktuelles”.

Please note that we do not offer onSET tests directly at the University during the pandemic.

Students at the University of Vechta can take the onSET free of charge. For external participants, the fee to take the onSET is €12,50 (fees are subject to change).

You will be given your results directly after the test. The results will also be retained in a Language Certificate, which will be available for you to download from your participant portal.  Please note that the home version of the onSET does not include a language certificate.
